Red Hat Announced OpenStack Distribution “Red Hat OpenStack Platform 16”

February 20, Red Hat announced “OpenStack Platform 16”, an OpenStack distribution.  It supports “OpenStack Train”, the 20th release of the OpenStack, released in October 2019, and it integrates the new features of Train.

Red Hat OpenStack Platform is a platform that combines OpenStack, which is an open-source cloud platform, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux.  It can be used for building private cloud.

Red Hat OpenStack Platform 16 is the latest version following Red Hat OpenStack Platform 15, which was released in September 2019.  OpenStack supports “OpenStack Train”, released in October 2019, and “OpenStack Stein” released in April 2019, and OpenStack Rocky, released in August 2018.  RHEL is based on RHEL 8, which became GA in May of the same year.

Being a long-term support life cycle, it is designed to let users use the same platform for up to five years.  Thanks to its stream release feature, users can get access to new features without having to conduct a complete update of the platform.

Also, you can use OpenStack Cell v2 to implement multicell.  Now internal API traffic encryption (TLS/SSL) can be done on Open Virtual Network, and OVN can be implemented on IPv6.

Including these improvements, there are over 1000 new features and enhancements.
