Open-Source Distributed Analytical Engine “Apache Kylin 3.1” Released

July 2, the development team of “Apache Kylin”, an online analytical processing engine for big data, released the latest release “Apache Kylin 3.1”. Apache Kylin is an open-source distributed analytical data warehouse. Written in Java, it was designed to provide OLAP in the big data era, with multi-dimensional cube, Apache Hadoop, and Apache Spark. This makes it possible for Kylin to achieve constant query speed even when the data volume grows.

Kylin 3.1 is the first release of version 3 series, which came out in December 2019. It introduces ten new features.

This latest release includes templates for deploying Kylin on Kubernetes. It also adds Kylin pushdown to support PostgreSQL. Now pushdown query engine supports multi JDBC pushdown runners to execute query/update.

Another notable feature is the self-service interface for cube migration. Before this feature, admin had to manually check or log into the backend server. This new feature simplifies the migration process.

It introduces a new cube build engine Apache Flink, in addition to Apache Spark. It also adds functionality enhancements like support for authentication plugins to CAS and SAML in custom profile.
