Amarok is a sound system-independent audio-player for Unix. Its interface uses a powerful "browser" metaphor that allows you to create playlists that make the most of your music collection.

for XMMS visualizations plugins, including both
OpenGL and 2D graphics. A new database powered
music manager combines amaroK's powerful playlist
handling with a Rhythmbox-like approach. Another
new module, the "Search Browser", aids in quickly
locating titles on the harddisk. A revamped
toolbar improves the user interface greatly,
adding numerous shortcuts to frequently used
features.

This major new version features a largely rewritten audio engine, which can work with multiple audio systems, like aRts and GStreamer. It also adds a new, comfortable file browser, support for tag-editing, and an on screen display. Another new feature is the slick 3D visualization module which uses OpenGL. Invoking amaroK with command line arguments has been made very fast by use of an application loader concept. There have been numerous performance improvements, bugfixes, and GUI updates.
