Project Description

Darcs is an advanced revision control system. It
has two particularly distinctive features which
differ from other revision control systems: each
copy of the source is a fully functional branch,
and underlying it is a consistent and powerful
theory of patches. In spite of its power, darcs is
simple to use, in part because of the symmetry
that is restored by making each copy of the
repository a branch.

Most of the functionality provided by the old
"push" command has been split into two commands:
"send" and "push". Win32 support has been
improved, including support for sending patches by
email via MAPI, the standard Windows email
interface. Along with these major changes, a
number of bugfixes and performance improvements
were made.

Support was added for per-user preference setting
which can be overridden by the existing
per-repository preferences. Support was added for
multiple-choice flags (such as --summary and
--no-summary), so users can choose either one as
the default option and then override it on the
command line. File permissions in the working
direcotry are now preserved. A few minor bugs were
fixed.

The repository format transition begun in darcs 0.9.14 has moved to the
next stage. Also, a problem with text files lacking trailing newlines
has been fixed. Both of these changes are dealt with by the convert-repo
program. New repair, annotate, and rollback commands have been added,
and darcs mv has been improved to better match the behavior of the
ordinary shell mv. A number of performance improvements and minor
bugfixes have been implemented, as well.

The user interface was rewritten, allowing the
user to return to previous prompts. A transition
to a new repository format was started (this will
take two more releases to complete). Other changes
include the new unrevert command, automatic
detection of binary files that contain '\0' or ^Z,
and a --summary option for whatsnew. darcs can now
be called in subdirectories of a repository.
Miscellaneous bugfixes were made.
