Project Description

Dirac is a general-purpose video codec aimed at
resolutions from QCIF (176x144) to HDTV
(1920x1080), progressive or interlaced. It uses
wavelets, motion compensation, and arithmetic
coding, and aims to be competitive with other
state-of-the-art codecs. The Open Source
implementation provides a C++ library with an
encoder and decoder.

0.5.4

This is a minor release with improvements to decoding and encoding speed. New patches have been provided to include Dirac support in the latest versions of MPlayer, ffmpeg, and transcode (via ffmpeg). The DirectShow filter released with the previous release (0.5.1) is compatible with this release. Support for lossless encoding has been added to the encoder via a command line argument. The bit stream syntax has not changed from 0.5.3, so Dirac bitstreams coded using version 0.5.3 can be decoded by this release.
