Project Description

Fotoxx navigates an image collection using a thumbnail browser to choose images to view or edit. Edit functions include brightness, contrast, color, gamma, white balance, tone mapping, red eyes, sharpen, blur, noise suppression, smart erase, trim (crop), resize, rotate, add text, bend/warp, many art effects, HDR, HDF, stack, and panorama. Edit functions use movable curves and sliders. Feedback is live using the whole image. RAW files can be edited and saved with deep color. Areas or objects can be selected using freehand draw, follow edge, and tone matching. Selections can be edited in place with adjustable blending. They can also be cut and pasted into other images. Any metadata can be edited, reported, and searched (filenames, tags, dates, geotags, comments, captions, ratings, etc.). Collections (arbitrary subsets) can be defined and viewed. Batch functions are available for rename, resize/export, RAW conversion, and more.

10.1.1

This release fixes three bugs. Fotoxx would crash at startup if the saved state file was one left over from fotoxx version 9.x. If fotoxx was built from source and not installed at the default location /usr/local, the menu entry and desktop launcher would not work. If a panorama was started from an image that was zoomed, the resulting alignment image was smaller than normal. Conversion of RAW files was also accelerated by about 30%.

10.1

This release makes a few refinements in function and ease-of-use. Tone-mapping reacts live to the blend-width slider, the edit scale is matched to the contrast range of the image, and it is up to 50% faster. The Brightness Ramp function now works within a select area. Buttons for setting popular aspect ratios were added to the Trim function. The function busy indicator (clock cursor) was made more obvious. Changing the GUI language from within the GUI was simplified.

10.0

The EXIF key for user-defined tags was changed to be compatible with most other (Windows) programs that also use tags. A conversion function is provided that should be run before any new image editing is done. A warning at startup is given. See menu: Help > README for details. Editing of thumbnails is now blocked to prevent thumbnails of thumbnails from being created. A small memory leak was fixed.

9.9

The tone mapping gradient method was made easier to use and a little faster. Other tonemap functions were removed because the gradient method is stronger and more flexible. Select Area copy and paste was extended to allow areas to be saved as files and opened later to paste into other images. Other minor fixes and interface improvements.

9.8

A gradient-based method of tone mapping was added, replacing a weaker method. The dependency on FreeImage was removed, which simplifies installing from source as well as package creation. This reduced the supported file types to TIFF (1/8/16 bits), JPEG, and PNG. A third sharpen method was added to amplify brightness gradients. A minor bug was fixed: the F1 context help was not working for the select area dialog. The feature to select area outline color can now be toggled among red, green, and black, whichever gives the best visibility.
