Project Description

Gutenprint (formerly Gimp-Print) is a collection of printer drivers for Unix/Linux that currently supports over 1400 printers. It emphasizes quality and flexibility, offering a wide variety of options to meet most printing needs. It includes a CUPS driver, an IJS-based Ghostscript driver, Foomatic data, an enhanced Print plugin for The GIMP, and other printer maintenance utilities. It can be used equally well for fast printing of text or critical printing of high quality graphics and photographs.

4.3.21

This release primarily offers further substantial print quality improvements that are described in detail in the release notes. In addition to generic improvements, many Epson printers have been further tuned to produce both improved color fidelity and smoother texture; in many cases, print quality at 720 DPI will match or exceed print quality at 1440 or even 2880 DPI with earlier versions. In addition, there is support for a few new Epson and Sony printers.

4.2.6-pre2

This release fixes a bug in the CUPS driver
whereby successive pages of a multi-page job were
printed with progressively worse quality. This bug
was introduced in 4.2.6-pre1 and is not present in
4.2.5. In addition, there is preliminary support
for some Canon and Epson printers, C-size paper
has been added, and a few other minor fixes have
been made.

4.3.20

This release's primary focus is greatly improved print quality, particularly for Epson Stylus printers. The color correction has been extensively modified and should produce much more accurate and consistent color. In addition, many Epson printers (including most recent ones) have been retuned to give improved quality at lower resolutions, so that 720 DPI will often produce sufficient quality for photo printing and save much time. In addition, experimental support for some Olympus printers has been added.

4.3.19

Two new settings (controlling the overall quality and describing the
type of image to be printed) have been added to simplify the user
interface. In addition, there have been significant color quality
improvements for Epson printers, addition of new paper types for some
Epson printers, and some minor compatibility fixes to the CUPS PPD
files.
