Project Description

Gutenprint (formerly Gimp-Print) is a collection of printer drivers for Unix/Linux that currently supports over 1400 printers. It emphasizes quality and flexibility, offering a wide variety of options to meet most printing needs. It includes a CUPS driver, an IJS-based Ghostscript driver, Foomatic data, an enhanced Print plugin for The GIMP, and other printer maintenance utilities. It can be used equally well for fast printing of text or critical printing of high quality graphics and photographs.

4.3.11

This release features a number of small usability enhancements, including margins for paper sizes with tearoff borders (such as Epson 4x6 photo paper), and some simplifications in the options in the UI. It also features improved quality from EvenTone dithering. Finally, the IJS driver supports all of the new Gimp-print options, although they are not yet documented.

4.3.9

This release primarily focuses on greatly enhanced color options (color transfer curves, individual channel densities, GCR curves, etc.). These facilities are currently only accessible through the GIMP interface (plugin). This is an unstable development release, but anyone interested in serious printing applications is encouraged to try this release. Note that the printrc format is not backward compatible with Gimp-Print 4.2.

4.3.10

Gimp-Print 4.3.10 offers major enhancements to the color controls in the Print plugin for the GIMP. Among the new controls are transfer curves for the individual color channels and explicit control over the GCR. This release replaces the ill-fated 4.3.9, which suffered serious (although subtle in effect) bugs that were not detected until after release.

4.3.8

This release is oriented towards the developer who is interested in adding color management to Gimp-Print. It offers many new controls, including curves and additional parameters for each channel. The code remains very unstable, and additional changes are expected in the future, but this release offers sufficient functionality for the interested developer. It is not recommended for general users, who should stick with 4.2.5.
