Project Description

Lzip is a lossless data compressor with a user interface similar to the one of gzip or bzip2. Lzip decompresses almost as fast as gzip and compresses more than bzip2, which makes it well suited for software distribution and data archiving. Lzip is a clean implementation of the LZMA algorithm. The Lzip file format is designed for long-term data archiving. It is clean, provides very safe four factor integrity checking, and is backed by the recovery capabilities of lziprecover.

1.5

Codification of dictionary size in the file header has been changed. At least lzip 1.4 is needed to decompress files produced by lzip 1.5.
A problem that prevented compilation with GCC 4.4 has been fixed. Compression speed has been improved for all files, and has even doubled for dictionary sizes of less than 64KiB. Lzdiff and lzgrep now accept "-h" for "--help" and "-V" for "--version". "--member-size" and "--volume-size" have been made more accurate. The chapter "Algorithm" has been added to the manual.
