Memtest-86 is a very thorough stand-alone memory test for x86 and Pentium systems (and compatibles). It currently does 11 tests to fully determine whether you have faulty RAM or not.

A fix for a 2.0 problem that caused crashes for Cyrix 6x86's and some 486 systems, support for Cyrix CPU detection, improved the CPU detection for Intel and AMD CPUs, a compile time option (BIOS_MEMSZ)to get the last memory address from the BIOS (this will fix memory sizing problems for some old 486 motherboards).
