Project Description

mkvtoolnix is a set of tools that allow users to display information about, extract streams from, merge several streams into, and split Matroska media files. Supported video stream types include streams from AVIs, Ogg/OGM, RealVideo, MP4 files, and MPEG program streams as well as verious elementary streams (h264/AVC, MPEG1/2, VC1, Dirac). Supported audio formats include AAC, (E)AC3, DTS/DTS-HD, FLAC, MP2, MP3, RealAudio, and Vorbis. Several subtitle formats are supported, including SRT, SSA, ASS, VobSub, and many others.

mkvmerge can now output timestamps and durations with sample precision. The conversion from CUE sheets to chapters and tags has been updated to match the latest specs. TTA files with ID3 tags are now supported, as are some new Matroska elements regarding chapters. Several bugs have been fixed all over the place.

mkvmerge translates CUE sheets used with the
"--chapters" option into chapters and tags.
mkvextract can re-create such a CUE sheet from the
Matroska file. mkvextract can now extract TTA
tracks into TTA files. mkvmerge's SRT file
recognition failed if there was a space at the end
of the first line. mkvmerge's Matroska reader
contained an illegal memory access that caused
random crashes. The VobSub reader will not crash
on unsorted .idx files anymore. Some compilation
issues have been fixed.

OpenDML AVIs created with mencoder were not read correctly. The 'default track' feature was broken in both mkvmerge and mmg. mkvmerge can now read TTA audio files. When using CUE sheets as chapter files, mkvmerge will automatically convert the tags from the CUE sheet into Matroska tags and store them in the output file.

Several usability improvements were made in mmg. The controls in the job management dialog in mmg were not working correctly on Windows, and mmg didn't catch all of mkvmerge's output. mkvextract was broken on big endian systems. mkvmerge's --track-order parameter has been changed to work globally so that tracks can be selected arbitrarily. The guide to mmg has been updated.

MPEG4 video can be read from MP4 files. mkvmerge
will correctly handle garbage in AVIs that is used
for audio sync, and replaces the garbage with the
correct amount of silence. mmg allows the user to
add arbitrary command line options, and some other
usability enhancements have been implemented.
There were fixes to the Matroska, MP3, and OGM
readers, as well as to mmg's job manager.
