Project Description

Moodss is a modular monitoring application, which supports operating systems (Linux, UNIX, Windows, etc.), databases (MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, DB2, ODBC, etc.), networking (SNMP, Apache, etc.), and any device or process for which a module can be developed (in Tcl, Python, Perl, Java, and C). An intuitive GUI with full drag'n'drop support allows the construction of dashboards with graphs, pie charts, etc., while the thresholds functionality includes emails and user defined scripts. Monitored data can be archived in a SQL database by both the GUI and the companion daemon, so that complete history over time can be made available from Web pages or common spreadsheet software. It can even be used for future behavior prediction or capacity planning, from the included predictor tool, based on powerful statistical methods and artificial neural networks.

18.0

In this release, support for Tcl/Tk 8.3 has begun to be gradually removed. Support for 64 bit row numbers in modules and database was added, requiring Tcl/Tk 8.4 version or above. Many included modules were upgraded with new non-blocking remote host implementation and row numbering techniques. For module development, new hash and non-blocking channel libraries were added. The usual and numerous bugfixes and minor improvements were also made.

17.16

New modules, compatible with Linux kernel 2.6,
were added: hddtemp for monitoring hard disk drive
temperature, usb, and diskstats. The pci module
was rewritten using the new remote line task
class, using threaded code, which should never
block on remote communication errors. The pci
module source code was also thoroughly documented
to serve as a reference implementation for remote
monitoring. A more efficient implementation is
also used for remote monitoring using ssh. The
usual bugfixes and minor improvements were also
made.

The ability to save dashboards in database history
mode was added. The partitions module should now
display precise read and write statistics in
kilobytes. The use of the watch mouse cursor was
removed on display updates, as it could induce
memory growth in the XFree86 server on Linux
platforms. The usual bugfixes and minor
improvements were also made.
