Project Description

Open-Xchange Server Edition is a multi-tier, small footprint solution that integrates seamlessly into customer’s architectures, enabling smooth start of operation based on services. The Open-Xchange Server Edition supports different Enterprise Linux systems like SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, and Debian Etch. Users are presented with a highly advanced, improved, and intuitive browser based interface that meets all their email, calendaring, tasking, contacts, and document storage requirements. Further integrations like LDAP-support or ADS are possible. It's designed for medium organizations and educational and public administrations that want to have a customizable communication solution.

Open-Xchange Express Edition provides a complete
email and collaboration solution in one package
including email, calendaring, contacts, task
lists, document management, bookmarks, a knowledge
base, a collaboration portal, an AJAX frontend,
Microsoft Outlook connectivity, and an
administration module. The server can be
integrated with a Web server like Apache and
provides a complete servlet engine based on AJP.
Existing mail servers (SMTP/IMAP) are supported.
An API and several interfaces (WebDAV/XML, JSON)
are included and can be used to enhance OXExpress.

This stable release contains optimized Outlook support for public and shared folders, attachments and distribution lists, MySQL support, and enhanced interfaces for VOIP, Skype, and other apps. SyncML support was optimized, allowing any SyncML enabled device or handheld to share information with Open-Xchange. Java 1.5 is better supported, and this version includes security enhancements to protect both the connections between client systems and the Open-Xchange server and the Open-Xchange server and the network.

MySQL support was enhanced and PostgreSQL support was optimized. There are some fixes for recurring tasks. The performance was increased for the WebMail module. Additional bugfixes were made for the project module to show GANTT charts again. The build process was fixed for Java 1.5.

This release is able to use MySQL as a database
backend and has some new views like a work week
view. Additionally, the search methods were
enhanced and improved. A RSS news feed is now
included. The directory service integration was
enhanced to support existing directory trees with
users distributed over several different subtrees.
The overall performance was improved, and work was
done on the webmail usability.
