Project Description

Portecle is a GUI version of the command-line
keytool provided with the Java SDK. Portecle can
create many different types of keystores, generate
and store keys and their associated X.509
certificates, generate CSRs, import and store
trusted certificates, and perform maintenance on
keystore entries.

Certificate extension rendering and recognition has been improved, documentation has been updated, and user interface has been improved here and there. Handling of unknown key sizes when viewing certificates or generating key store reports has been fixed. The default for newly generated RSA keys has been changed to 2048 bits. Portecle is now available through Java Web Start.

Recognition and decoding support for some additional certificate extensions, support for DSA certificates using various signature algorithms, and command line support for opening certificates, CRL's, and CSR's were added. The user interface has been improved here and there. Some minor bugs have been fixed.

This release features support for exporting keys
and chains as OpenSSL-style PEM bundles, support
for examining certification requests, and support
for loading GNU Classpath (>= 0.90) security
providers if installed (if they are, GNU Keyring
keystores are also suppored, as well as some
additional certificate extensions). There are
spelling fixes, support for entry alias case
sensitivity in keystores where applicable, user
interface improvements, and better default values.
The bundled BC provider jar has been upgraded to
1.34. There are some workarounds for running with
GNU Classpath (not fully working yet).
