VLC media player

Crashes were fixed in the ogg, vobsub, and dvdread
modules. Several memory leaks were fixed. Apple
machines without Quartz Extreme are no longer
supported (use 0.9.2 or earlier). In the Mac OS X
port, a crash with deletion of old preferences and
the target name for downloaded updates were fixed.
Stability in the Windows port was fixed for the
video output. All the 0.9.3 fixes were ported to
Windows.

This version shows various bugfixes, including DTS chapter order, audio-CD behavior, subtitles, and podcast fixes. It also fixes a few crashes in the PS, SSA, MKV, XSPF, and FreeType modules. The Mac OS X version shows a lot of improvements and regression fixes. The Qt interface shows a few modifications and bugfixes.

This version adds a new interface module for Linux and Windows, a media library, and an improved playlist and many new audio and video filters. Video playback is enhanced with new protocols, new codecs, and new demuxers. Audio playback has cover art, metadata support (and editing), and has been vastly enhanced. It can play audio when the playback speed is changed. libVLC has been simplified and improved, many bindings for many languages were added, and there is a new Mac OS X framework. Scripts written in Lua can expand VLC media player's capabilities.

An integer overflow in the WAV demuxer, as reported in CVE-2008-2430, was fixed. Galaktos-based audio visualizations on FreeBSD were improved. The option to use shared memory within the GLX video output module was fixed. Miscellaneous bugfixes were made in multiple modules and in libvlc.

Several security vulnerabilities were resolved.
Various memory leaks were removed. Compilation
with recent versions of FFmpeg was fixed. MPEG2
and MPEG-TS support was improved. Many bugs were
fixed.
