Project Description

VLC media player is a multimedia player, framework, streamer, and encoder. It can play inputs like files, network streams, DVDs, audio CDs, Blu-Rays, capture devices, and screens. It can play most audio and video codecs and formats (MPEG 1/2/4, H264, VC-1, DivX, WMV, Vorbis, AC3, AAC, MKV, etc.), but can also be used to convert to different formats and/or send streams through the network.

A few new features were also added, such as SSL support in the HTTP stream output and HTTP interface, and support for playlist group announcements.

The input and transcoding layers were rewritten to allow multi-input and transcoding at any stage of the pipeline. A new plugin cache system improved launch times.

streams containing MPEG-4 video, multi-channel WAV
muxing, and VobSub subtitles. New video filters
were added: timestamp, subpicture, marquee. This
release also improves the seeking precision in the
input, the multi-input and the RTSP/VoD server.

This release fixed a lot of stability issues and vastly
improved the GUI with a new streaming wizard and
OSD widgets. Support for new formats and input
methods (iTMS previews, MJPEG webcams, Windows
Media Server RTSP, Kasenna MediaBase) were added
along with new codecs (G.726 audio, 14496-17 MPEG
TS and MPEG-4 text and colour DVB subtitles, SVG
rendering). Screen capture (with streaming) is now
supported, and many new JavaScript hooks were
added to the Mozilla plugin.
