Project Description

Whitetrash is a squid plugin that provides a
user-friendly and sysadmin-friendly domain
whitelisting service for HTTP and SSL. The goal is
to make it significantly harder for malware to use
HTTP and SSL for initial exploitation, data
exfiltration, and command/control.

1.0

This release adds dramatic improvements in scalability and flexibility.
The major improvements are integration with the Google Safebrowsing API,
improved authentication with simple integration with Windows domain
controllers and OpenLDAP servers, introduction of a CAPTCHA system to
prevent malware from adding itself to the whitelist, memcached support
to reduce the load on the database and allow scaling to very large
enterprises, a new learning mode for building a whitelist baseline, and
a Firefox add-on to provide quick whitelisting.

0.2

This release adds a number of new features. Users
can now delete their own whitelist entries and
admins can delete any whitelist entry. A new HTML
report is available that lists all domains
requested but not whitelisted; this is good for
tracking down malware/adware and generating static
blacklists. More statistics on domains are
available, including hit counts and last visited
time stamps. Any authentication mechanism
supported by Squid can now be used. Squid provides
plugins for NTLM, basic, and digest, but has an
extensible interface for other authentication
schemes.
