Project Description

Wifimap is a Web-based application that graphically
documents the organisation and growth of a wireless
network community. The map is composed of
numerous square cells that are recombined to display
the required area. Users can start with just a few
cells to cover their area, and can access different
areas of the network by scrolling through the cells.
New cells can be easily added using a built in editor.
Cells can be added at different zoom levels allowing users to zoom in and out of the map. The design makes it very fast, and it can be run on low powered servers.
Wireless nodes can be added or edited with a few
mouse clicks. Links between the nodes are
automatically drawn based on the data entered for
each node, and colours are used to represent different wireless protocols.

0.3.1

This release features lots of small bugfixes. The map now
stays at the same position when switching modes. The
set origin works correctly again. The default space value
for lots of values was removed from forms. It now detects
whether cells are present for a new zoom level and
disables the zoom button if not appropriate. Planned links
are now semi-transparent.

Clicking on a node while viewing the network displays node info on the RHS of the map. Links don't cross the border of the map anymore. Links are now drawn in two colours to show the protocol used and the status of the link. Default zoom levels are limited to 128, 256, and 512 until there is a better way of handling them. This release has been tested with a network of 40 nodes and no major bugs are apparent.

All the divs used in the code have been changed from relative to absolute. Widths and heights have been added to most tables, trs, and tds. Opera, Mozilla, and Galeon now render the maps nicely. IE should as well, except for its broken support for transparent PNGs. If you require IE support, comment out any lines that contain "drawlinks.php".
