May be this bug is related to global indexing. But I need more details to solve your problem. such as:

  • OS version
  • CPU info
  • Memory size
  • How many mails do you have? (100?, 10,000?)
  • How bug is occured? (at startup?, how often?, any trigger event? etc...)

If you want to stop global indexing, there are two procedures:

1. From Preferences

  1. Advanced Tab > Uncheck Enable Global Search and Indexer
  2. Restart Tenfourbird

2. put user.js on profile dir

  1. Quit Tenfourbird
  2. Create file user.js on dir /Users/[your home dir]/Library/Thunderbird/Profiles/[random letters]/
  3. Copy following line to user.js
    1. user_pref("mailnews.database.global.indexer.enabled", false);
  4. Start Tenfourbird
