Moonbeam is an XML socket server written in Java. It is targeted at building multi-user applications such as chat rooms, games, and instant messengers.

Jerklib is a NIO based, event driven IRC library
for Java. JerkLib can be used for a bot or an IRC
client. It is very flexable and easy to extend.

file-butler is a plugin for XChat to serve local files using a ratio system. It supports trade ratios, duplicate checking, send and receive queues and advertising.

pyirclib is an (almost) full implementation of IRC
functions in Python.

msn-pecan is an alternative WLM plug-in for libpurple. Support includes Pidgin, Adium, Empathy (telpathy-haze), and Nokia N900 (telpathy-haze).

The xMSN server daemon implements the MSNP7 protocol specification, which is used by the MSN Messenger.

Ibid is a multi-protocol, general purpose, instant messaging chat bot written in Python. It aims for a naturalistic interface rather than strict-syntax commands. Ibid understands many protocols, including IRC, Jabber/XMPP/Google Talk, Campfire, NMDC, and SILC. It also interacts over SMTP, HTTP, and various RPC protocols. Ibid aims to make plugins as easy as possible to write. It ships with a large collection of plugins for looking up information, performing conversions, storing factoids, delivering messages, and much more.

aim2irc lets you control an IRC session from your AIM client. It was written specifically for use on a Hiptop.

Funpidgin is a modified version of the Pidgin
instant messenger application. It was made in
response to the controversial auto-resizing
textbox that was implemented in Pidgin. Current
features of Funpidgin include manual resizing and
the ability to turn off persistent window
placement. Funpidgin's releases are meant to
coincide with Pidgin's releases.

IRC Defender is a Perl program for protecting your
IRC network against virus drones, general
troublemakers, ban evasion, and attacks. It is
fully modular, able to unload and load modules on
the fly, and comes with several modules to ban
anatoly/fyle virus drones, block unauthorised
cgi:irc sites, conduct ctcp version surveys,
maintain ctcp version blacklists, and (most
importantly) set regexp-based akills.

Shimari is a simple, flexible, lightweight component enclosure
for
standalone Java applications that translates a configuration file
into an
object hierarchy. It is similar in purpose to Apache Digester,
except
that responsibility for instantiation is encapsulated in the
object's constructor, and the resulting objects form a loosely
coupled collection of co-operating components.

savIRC is an IRC client for Linux, Unix, BSD, and
Windows. It supports multiple server connections,
SOCKS5 proxy, CTCP, DCC, passive DCC, ignore and
notify lists, Unicode, mIRC colors, MDI dedicated
windows, logs, customizable popups, pre-defined
events, scripting in Tcl/Tk, captions for URL
nicks, and channel names.

Élmer Bot is a cybernetic agent entirely written in PHP. Its main functions are to remind you of things, display the temperature, show presence on Web sites, and more. It works on the Jabber network, which means it reaches users from the MSN/ICQ/etc. networks as well.

MyChat is a simple client/server chat application.
The port that the server uses can be selected,
unlimited connections are supported, and clients
can have shared or private conversations.

geektalkd is a simple chat server designed for use with thin clients (like telnet, netcat, or one of the avaliable Perl clients). It features multiple channels, private whispers, and everything else you'd expect from a chat server. Additionally, all of the parser code can be rewritten and reread, so you can install new functions on the fly without restarting the server or kicking users off.
