Details

I have 5 Seagate ST3000DM001 connected on two LSI SAS controllers (a 9211-8i and a 9201-16i).

When running the latest (or a previous) version of CrystalDiskInfo to get SMART info, while disks are currently accessed for read/write operations, "Warnings" are published in the Event Log due to timeout on disk accesses.

The message from the Controllers are like “Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort1, was issued.” or ”Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort2, was issued.”. Those Warnings are usually followed by one or two other Warnings like “The IO operation at logical block address 0 for Disk 0 was retried.” (The address and the disk number are varying...)

If the auto-refresh feature in enabled with a refresh rate of, e.g., 3 minutes, such Warnings are published every 3 minutes too.

I have the same warning published when using smartctl (smartmontools) but none when collecting SMART info with HD Tune Pro or WinDFT. I don't have those Warning anymore when I disable the auto-refresh within CrystalDiskInfo...

I did contact LSI as I tought it was an issue with their controllers but they suggested me that CrystalDiskInfo was possibly sending unsupported requests to the disks... How can this issue be investigated ?
