Project Description

konspire is a searchable, distributed file-sharing
system featuring resumable file transfers and
fast, exhaustive substring searches of all hosted
file names on the network. konspire is written
using pure Java. Load from processing search
requests is distributed throughout a dynamically
connected network of servers. Several
fault-tolerant features ensure system correctness
and reliability.

Beta5

This release provides a major fix: the downed-server detection protocol caused servers to go into almost endless loops in certain situations. All know issues involving downed servers have now been resolved. Minor fixes include relsolved bugs in transfer progress bars and proper handling of failed file transfers. Major enhancements include text file logging support in both client and server. Minor enhancements include increasing the maximum search results limit from 40 to 160 (per user request).

Beta 4

This release provides a major fix. Previously, clients which were connected to a server when the server went down were not removed from the database correctly. This issue has been resolved. Major graphical client improvements include a reimplemented table interface for selecting and interacting with files and transfers. An error in the text displayed on progress bars has also been fixed. For this release, many of the konspire distributions have been repackaged to make installing and running the program easier for novice users.

Beta 3

This release provides a major fix: Clients and servers behind firewalls (or connected via certain ISPs) were not obtaining their own IP addresses correctly. This issue has been resolved. Major graphical client improvements include a reorganized GUI, user-selectable file sharing directory, GUI logging of completed transfers, dynamically selected order of magnitude unit prefixes for file sizes, and adoption of the IEEE proposal for base-two order of magnitude prefixes (KiB, MiB, GiB, etc).

Beta 2

This release provides a major fix: Download buttons were not clickable in Java 1.3 (potentially due to a Java bug). This issue has been resolved with a temporary fix. Minor fixes include: Clients now track their number of current connections correctly (this eliminates many connection refusals). The server list now resists listing the same server more than once.
