Project Description

OSCAR (Open Source Cluster Application Resources) is a snapshot of the best known methods for building, programming, and using clusters. It consists of a fully integrated and easy-to-install software bundle designed for high performance cluster computing.

RedHat 9.0, 8.0, and Mandrake 9.0 are now
supported. SIS updates were made, including
SystemImager with Multicast capabilities. OPDer, a
GUI interface to the OSCAR Package Downloader
(OPD) was added. LAM/MPI 7.0 and C3 v4.x are now
used. The Wizard was improved, and portions of it
were redone using Qt. XML expressiveness was
enhanced for OSCAR packagers. Other various
package updates were made, including new OPD
packages for Myrinet, PVFS, and Clumon.

This release offers full IA-64 support with the inclusion of updated SIS and Kernel_Picker packages. Other bugfixes and package updates were also made. The supported distributions include RedHat 7.2 and 7.3, as well as Mandrake 8.2. There is experimental support for RedHat 7.1 and Mandrake 9.0.

This is a beta release and is not intended for inexperienced users or
production environments. It features Red Hat 7.1, 7.2, and 7.3
support, Mandrake 8.2 support, IA-64 support (Itanium 1), support for
adding/deleting nodes, modules/env-switcher (3.1.6/1.0.4) dynamic and
persistent environment configuration, the Ganglia (2.2.3) monitoring
system, and commandline tools. There are also several updated
packages: C3 3.1, Pfilter 1.678, LAM/MPI 6.5.6, MPICH 1.2.4, Maui
scheduler 3.0.7p8, OpenPBS 2.3.16, PVM 3.4.4+6, and SIS
0.92/2.1.3/1.25.
