Project Description

Ubuntu Privacy Remix is a modified live CD based on Ubuntu Linux. UPR is not intended for permanent installation on a hard disk. The goal of Ubuntu Privacy Remix is to provide an isolated working environment where private data can be dealt with safely. The system installed on the computer running UPR remains untouched. It does this by removing support for network devices as well as local hard disks. Ubuntu Privacy Remix includes TrueCrypt and GnuPG for encryption and introduces "extended TrueCrypt volumes".

9.04r1

This version is based on Ubuntu 9.04. The most notable changes are much better hardware support, especially for screens and graphics cards; OpenOffice.org 3.0; the new notify-osd; and some new packages. Linux kernel 2.6.28.9 with the same modifications as before is used; i.e. no network support and no support for local hard disks. The rights of the live session user were restricted, so now only commands necessary for the scripts can be executed with admin rights. Loading of malicious code, especially drivers or kernel modules, is now a lot more difficult.
