New Courier font too small

When I changed the memo font to New Courier size 10,
it is displaying too small on my screen (much smaller
than New Courier 10pt font in Microsoft Word). I had
to change the font size to 16 in order to get it to
be the same size as 10pt. Is the size based on pixels
instead of points? If so, please use points
measurement instead because most people will be
familiar with it.
