Project Description

The littleutils are a collection of small but useful programs. These programs include a duplicate file finder (repeats), image optimizers (opt-jpg, opt-png, opt-gif, and recomp-jpg), file renaming utilities (lowercase and uppercase), archive recompressors (to-bzip, to-7zip, and to-lzma), a tempfile utility (tempname), text file cleanup utilities (notabs, notrails, and lreplace), some low-level file query utilities (filesize, filedate, filemode, and filenode), plus others. Web site administrators will find the image optimizers particularly useful, while script writers will find some of the lower-level utilities more useful.

1.0.20

An issue where the pngstrip utility (and the opt-png script that called it) would sometimes delete the transparency chunk even without the -a option was fixed along with a problem where the -t option in filedate didn't actually create output that was compatible with the -t option of touch. The memchurn utility was removed entirely as memtest86 or memtest86+ should be used instead. Portability of the to-7zip script in the "extra" subdirectory was improved.

1.0.19

A frenum (short for "file renumber") utility was
added, which can be used to rename or renumber
large numbers of files very easily and quickly.
The filehash utility was expanded to provide any
one of multiple hashes, and the repeats utility
was updated to better utilize the expanded
filehash utility as an underlying engine. lzma
utility detection was made more robust for the
purposes of the to-lzma conversion utility.

1.0.17

Most utilities were re-released under the GPL
version 3. The tempname utility now features a -D
option which can be used to create a temporary
directory instead of a temporary file. The -q
option was removed from the realpath utility. It
now operates in quiet mode always unless
explicitly called to do otherwise with the -v
option.

A new utility called recomp-jpg was added, and is
used for shrinking down oversized JPEG image
files. Several other bugfixes and minor feature
enhancements were also made. A build issue with
version 1.0.14 on Solaris 2.8 was fixed.
