Download List

Project Description

novi is a tool for finding the latest-version RPMs
in a tree. It can be used to create Kickstart
trees or yum repositories that contain the updated
RPMS. In the case of Kickstart, this means
machines come to life with the updates already
applied. Using novi for a yum repository trims the
size of the repodata files, which reduces client
download and processing time.

novi now uses an RPM's "epoch" tag to help
determine which is the newest release of a given
product. This oversight caused problems with
updated packages that were released with newer
epochs but older versions (notably, pilot-link in
FC5).

novi can now read RPM header info from Repository
Metadata (repodata) files. For repositories that
don't change (such as OS install media) this
offers a significant performance boost: novi can
parse a single XML file instead of reading all of
that repository's RPMs.
