Under Setup --> Keyboard... following were the settings when the issue was occuring.

"Backspace key" unchecked/unselected "Delete key" checked/selected

"Meta key" checked/selected

"Application Keypad" unchecked/unselected "Application Cursor" unchecked/unselected

Is thier anything else I can check?

Appreciate any help.

Uncheck "Delete key" setting.

After unchecking "Delete key" option the behaviour got more bizare...hitting delete key moves the cursor to end of line. Happens both in nano editor and on shell prompt.

Please copy EDITOR.CNF onto KEYBOARD.CNF.

cf. Keyboard setup file

To solve this problem, you need to do all of following.

  • Uncheck "Delete key" setting in "Keyboard setup" dialog
  • Copy EDITOR.CNF onto KEYBOARD.CNF.

If "Delete key" setting is checked, "Copying EDITOR.CNF" does not effective.
