backspace key is executed when delete key is pressed
Under Setup --> Keyboard... following were the settings when the issue was occuring.
"Backspace key" unchecked/unselected "Delete key" checked/selected
"Meta key" checked/selected
"Application Keypad" unchecked/unselected "Application Cursor" unchecked/unselected
Is thier anything else I can check?

doda Uncheck "Delete key" setting.
After unchecking "Delete key" option the behaviour got more bizare...hitting delete key moves the cursor to end of line. Happens both in nano editor and on shell prompt.
doda Please copy EDITOR.CNF onto KEYBOARD.CNF.
tried copying EDITOR.CNF on KEYBOARD.CNF no luck, get same issue.
doda To solve this problem, you need to do all of following.
If "Delete key" setting is checked, "Copying EDITOR.CNF" does not effective.

During the ssh2 session in linux, when nano editor is used, hitting delete key in the editor instead executes backspace action.
