bcr beats is a beat slicer that lets you cut up
and play with an audio sample: you can trigger
slices and loops with MIDI or the mouse and
keyboard, set pan, volume, and sample rate values,
and generally have lots of fun. The interface is
based on the Behringer BCR2000 MIDI controller,
which means lots of knobs. It can be used with or
without a controller.

PyChoReLib is a Python library which transforms
lists of notenames to a chordname. The system uses
built-in music theory knowledge to make it easy
and quick to add support for new chord types. Its
features include interval recognition, scale
recognition, and demo chord recognition using
real-time input from MIDI devices.

Ctrlr controls MIDI based musical (or other) devices. There are surfaces built for specific devices to give a nice look and feel.

MidiQuickFix allows you to directly edit the
events in a MIDI file. It is intended to make it
easy to find and fix problems, such as setting the
instrument, volume, and pan values for a track,
without the need for a complex MIDI sequencing
program.

Thinksynth is a modular synthesizer. It uses the
JACK Audio Connection Kit for sound input and
output, and ALSA for MIDI processing. Instruments
are created with .dsp files, which define a
network of Thinksynth modules using a simple
interpreted language. A collection of example .dsp
files is available in the source distribution.

Ryth(M)Aid + GUI generates a drum, bass, and piano
track according to a given set of chords. It is
useful for instrument players who want to practice
playing to certain harmonies. It uses tse3 for
MIDI sequencing and GTK+ for a GUI.

hexter is a software synthesizer that models the sound generation of a Yamaha DX7 synthesizer. It can easily load most DX7 patch bank files, edit those patches via a built-in editor or MIDI sys-ex messages, and recreate the sound of the DX7 with greater accuracy than any previous open source emulation (that the author is aware of). It operates as a plugin for the DSSI Soft Synth Interface.

libmidixx is a C++ library to manipulate MIDI sequences. It is intended for a multimedia application that handles playback, recording, and editing of MIDI sequences, though the current version just implements playback only. libmidixx supports OSS, ALSA, and serial (tty) MIDI ports, and also comes with a user-space sequencer implementation, which does a fair job on a lightly-loaded machine.

Gneutronica is a MIDI drum machine for Linux with a Gnome/GTK user
interface which provides a means to easily create and play back drum
tracks to MIDI devices (and to softsynths via snd_virmidi).

bcr steps is a MIDI step sequencer and arpeggiator
modelled on the Behringer BCR2000 interface (lots
of knobs). It integrates with a BCR2000 as well as
other MIDI controllers.

Sanetracker is a MIDI sequencer for Unix.

Drumstick is a C++ wrapper around the ALSA library sequencer interface using Qt4 objects, idioms, and style. The ALSA sequencer provides software support for MIDI technology on Linux. Complementary multiplatform classes for SMF and WRK file processing are also included. This library is used in KMetronome, KMidimon, and KMid2 and was formerly known as "aseqmm".

Midirecord is a simple command-line application to
record a MIDI file with your MIDI keyboard. It
also features automatic recording to a MIDI file
when you play electric piano, and thus it may be
used as a "recording daemon".
